Dear Friends of CMCRI:
The Community Mediation Center of Rhode Island (CMCRI), Rhode Island’s only nonprofit Community Mediation Center, is pleased to announce that beginning Monday, October  19th, 2009, we will be holding our bi-annual 34 Hour Basic Mediation Skills Training on the schedule listed below.  Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone whom you know may be interested.

Two important qualities in being a successful leader, manager, or business person are understanding what others want and need and the ability to effectively communicate what you want. Basic Mediation Skills Training is a first step in becoming a more skilled leader, problem solver and peace maker.  This training will teach you facilitation skills and techniques to enhance communication, conflict resolution, information gathering, perspective-taking, problem-solving, interest-based negotiating, and agreement writing.  Mediators are able to help others get past assumptions, acknowledge difficult and emotional conversation content, and help make communication productive. Some of the topics covered in this training include: mediator neutrality, perception, active listening, the mediation process, and the practical and ethical considerations involved in mediating disputes.  The training format is highly interactive and includes mini-lecture; small and large group exercises; and role-playing family, neighborhood, and small claims disputes.  Trainees are invited to apprentice at CMCRI where they will receive free mentoring, support and feedback, continuing education and training, and numerous opportunities to intervene in a wide variety of court and community disputes.
