Next up in the 2016 NEACR Webinar Series, Proactive Communication: Can We Learn to Love a Tough Conversation? will be presented by Libby Mahaffy, an NEACR board member and the Assistant Director for Conflict Management at MIT in the Office of Student Outreach and Support. She is a seasoned mediator, facilitator, coach and conflict management trainer.

Scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2016 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm ET, this interactive webinar will explore our need to prepare for those difficult conversations or interactions that we’ve become accustomed to avoiding.

We all have tough conversations and we all at least briefly consider the idea of avoiding them. Maybe it's talking with your boss about a raise, or confronting your roommate about doing his dishes, or discussing a parenting miscommunication with your partner. Even when we know that we need to have the conversation, we're stuck, tongue tied. It can feel scary to even think about it. So what can we do?

"Proactive Communication" was developed by an ombudsman and conflict management specialist to help get us unstuck. In seven steps, the framework walks us through the preparation process, defeating our unhelpful narratives and cognitive biases along the way.

Participants are encouraged to join with their own scenarios to work through so that they can immediately implement the concepts presented in the webinar. The framework presented can even help you analyze past conversations in order to improve future conversations. Participants may not come away with a passionate, undying love of hard conversations, but they may have more confidence, ease of mind and feel grounded the next time they find themselves in a tough situation.

Updates on how to access the webinar will be provided in advance of the event to those who register. With any questions, please send an email to admin@neacr.org. Registration closes at 12:00pm ET on Thursday, March 3. Please note that NEACR will be unable to give any refunds once you register for this webinar.
