The Value of Confidential Pre-mediation Sessions: ADR Webinar & Workshop Series/MWI

  • 14 Oct 2016
  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • MWI, 10 Liberty Square - 4th Floor, Boston, MA 02109

The confidential pre-mediation session is an opportunity for the mediator to talk separately with each party and their counsel in advance of the mediation. Join experienced mediators Jack Wofford and Chuck Doran to explore best practices relating to how to use confidential pre-mediation sessions in commercial and employment settings. Jack and Chuck will review how mediators can accomplish important objectives including building trust, answering questions about the mediation process and defining roles (parties, counsel, and mediator), how to raise and discuss nuanced aspects of the case including alternatives to settlement, discuss submissions and help the parties and counsel do their "homework" and prepare for a successful session.

The webinar will focus on the purpose of the confidential pre-mediation session as well as the benefits and drawbacks. Jack and Chuck will also discuss how these sessions have been successfully used with commercial clients such as General Motors, BMW of North America and others in the employment context.

MWI's ADR Webinar & Workshop Series is an exciting new initiative designed to engage, educate and inspire mediators and other ADR professionals. Each topic will be offered as a one hour webinar followed by an optional intensive skill building workshop onsite at MWI.

The online webinars are priced at $45 per person (no charge for active MWI mediators*) while the onsite workshop costs $325 per person (or $275 for active MWI mediators). To attend the one day workshop remotely via video link, registration is offered at a reduced price of $150 per person (or $125 for active MWI mediators).

The upcoming Value of Confidential Mediation Sessions webinar will take place on October 14 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm and the onsite workshop will be held on December 16 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The in person workshop will be held at MWI's office in downtown Boston. Click here for more information and registration, or contact Chuck Doran at 617-895-4026 or cdoran@mwi.org.
